Cancer of the lung disorders are often due to the too much progression of cells in the tissues of the lungs. This disease is liable for almost 1.3 billion fatalities globally. The unrestrained development of cells accumulate inside the lungs and this forms a tumor, which can be different from the cells located in the periphery of the lungs. This growth is considered fatal since it takes the nutrients and oxygen from the healthy cells. In the US, carcinoma of the lung surpassed the average amount of fatalities caused by prostate and breast cancer.

The primary reason for carcinoma of the lung includes cigarette smoking, extreme exposure to radon gas and prolonged exposure to asbestos. Probably the most notable signs of lung cancer in men and women difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, ache in the back, arms and chest and repetitive attacks of bronchitis and pneumonia. Cancer growths are frequently located in the right lung than in the left lung and there are two basic types of the disease:

          * Small Cell Lung Cancer or SCLC: This can be deemed as the least prevalent kind of lung carcinoma and the distribution of this is at a worrying rate. The primary reason for this cancer affliction is cigarette smoking.

          * Non-small Cell Lung Cancer or NSCLC: This, however, is recognized as the most prevalent kind of carcinoma of the lung and this also consists of subtypes of tumors such as squamous cell lung cancer, adenocarcinoma and large cell lung cancer.

As a way to determine the cancer stage accurately, the sufferer will likely be required to undergo X-rays, MRI scans, laboratory testing, bone scans and CT scans. Positive results from the lab screening are usually as a result of existence of metastases in the bone or liver. Using a radiological process, the dimensions of tumor as well as spread can be established. What does lung cancer feel like? This normally depends upon the type of growth and the cancer stage. Various stages of carcinoma of the lung are the following:

Stage I: This is actually the initial stage of cancer where the tumor is localized and the lymph nodes are unaffected. In this stage, the affected person can easily find treatment method by going through surgery. However, only 15% of cancer cases are discovered at its earlier stage. The tumor can contaminate all the underlying tissues.

Stage II: In the second stage of carcinoma of the lung, the tumor has already multiplied on the nearby lymph nodes and it has already penetrated the chest wall. Sometimes, it could already spread in the diaphragm and the external lining surrounding the heart.

Stage III: During this cancer stage, the tumor has already afflicted the lymph nodes covering the area in between the heart and lungs. This cancer stage may also affect the blood vessels..

Stage IV: This stage is regarded when the tumor has spread past the area of the lungs as well as the rest of the body. Surgical procedures cannot be considered for the management of this cancer stage, and the patient could only resort to radiation or chemotherapy. The rate of survival for this cancer stage is lesser than 10% and aside from the normal signs of the disease, the affected person may also encounter severe headaches, difficulty ingesting and vision changes.

Considered as the most prevalent type of cancer of the lung is NSCLC or Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Among the three sorts of this form of cancer of the lung is squamous cell lung carcinoma and this typically occurs on the center of the lung, near the bronchus or the large air passage. In accordance with studies, this kind of cancer of the lung grows slowly and is often as a consequence of smoking. Squamous cell lung cancer is considered stage IV cancer of the lung when the tumors reached other parts beyond the lungs and specific parts of the body including the brain and bones.

In case the ailment is discovered while in its initial phase, treatment procedures can be administered to eliminate the cancer and cure the problem. There are medications intended for squamous cell lung carcinoma and there are surgical treatments as well. The most typical treatment techniques implemented for this problem are the following:

            * Chemotherapy: this is viewed as one of the most frequently used cure for squamous cell lung cancer. This treatment method involves the use of prescriptions that are harmful for the cancer cells. Chemotherapy prescriptions function by spreading all over the body to minimize the discomfort, lessen all other signs and symptoms of the disease and slow down the development of cancer cells. In accordance to the National Cancer Institute, there is absolutely no single chemotherapy medication that could be suggested for this particular cancer condition. However, a mixture of chemotherapy medications, like cetuximab and bevacizumab, both approved by the FDA, can be utilized in order to treat the disease.

            * Radiation Treatment: in this procedure, a beam of radiation is centered on the cancer cells in order to get rid of it. This type of treatment can help decrease the tumor and reduce the signs and symptoms of the disease like shortness of breath, which is very common in later stages of cancer. Radiotherapy can be useful in delaying squamous cell lung cancer prognosis. In line with the affirmation made by the American Cancer Society, growths that have already gone beyond the lungs and reached the brain may still be treated with radiation therapy.

            * Photodynamic Therapy: this treatment approach, on the other hand, uses photosensitizers. These are medications that can be initialized with the use of the light of a laser. Fiber optics is normally being utilized in this approach to direct the light on the lungs. In line with the investigation conducted by the National Cancer Institute, photosensitizer medications can release some sort of oxygen when stimulated and this destroys the cancer cells found nearby. There are many kinds of photosensitizer medications that could be stimulated using various wavelengths of light. This actually enables tailored therapies as per the position of the tumor. Health professionals often use photodynamic treatment along with radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

An intensive diagnosis ought to be conducted before the administration of any of the treatment techniques in an effort to determine which of these is the best choice according to your problem. Before the treatment, make sure you discuss with your personal doctor the possible side effects of these treatment options, the success rate as well as lung cancer figures so that you are familiar with what you will be going through right after the treatment.

Cancer of the lung has two main types and this depends upon the look of the cancer cells. Small cell lung cancers are termed as oat cell carcinoma. This kind of cancer of the lung is less frequent and usually affects heavy smokers. Non-small cell lung cancer, on the other hand, refers to the various kinds of cancers found in the lungs. These include adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma. The indications of lung cancer in men might also differ with regards to the sort of cancer of the lung that is found.

Factors that Cause Cancer of the lung

About 90% of cancer of the lung cases, cigarette smoking is known as the main cause. Both cigarette smokers and people exposed to secondhand smoke are at high risk to acquiring cancer of the lung. Smoking cigarettes could cause various changes in the lung cells and destroy it. Because of repeated and excessive exposure to cigarette smoke, the damage it may cause to the cells from the lungs leads to abnormal growth. The lungs contain several lymph and blood vessels and at this point, the cancer cells can simply go to different parts of the body.

As mentioned previously, cigarette smoking is the major factor on the growth and development of lung cancer. Nonetheless, female smokers are at greater risk compared to male smokers. Other risks include exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke, excessive exposure to asbestos, radon and other hazardous chemicals and a history of cancer of the lung in the family.

Signs and Symptoms of Carcinoma of the Lung

The severity of the symptoms normally varies from a person to another. In some instances of this condition, individuals suffering from small cell lung cancer normally have unnoticed symptoms until lung cancer diagnosis is performed via a chest x-ray or CT scan. The development and invasion of cancer cells within the tissues of the lungs can result in numerous symptoms such as the following:

                Continuous pain in the chest
                Continuous and persistent coughing
                Coughing up blood
Recurring respiratory diseases like pneumonia and bronchitis
                Difficulty breathing, wheezing and hoarseness
Weight loss and absence of appetite
Inflammation of the face and neck
                Tiredness

Cancer of the lung may reach different parts of the body, including the brain, bones and adrenal glands. Metastasis symptoms rely on where the tumor is located. Nonetheless, metastatic cancer of the lung lacks symptoms, especially when it is within the adrenals or liver, and may only be identified through proper diagnosis. The cancer cells may get to the brain as well, and this may result in other symptoms like seizures, severe headaches, stroke symptoms and blurred vision.

                Diagnosis and Treatment Method

Cancer of the lungs is normally diagnosed based on physical assessment and thru various diagnostic testing including x-ray, PET scan, MRI scan, biopsy, CT scan, bone scan, sputum cytology, thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, blood testing and fine needle aspiration. These diagnostic testing can also help identify the cancer stage. For non-small cell cancer of the lung, the stages range from Stage 1 to stage 5, on the other hand small cell lung carcinoma has restricted stages but they are extensive.

The management of this disorder relies on the individual’s health and fitness condition and the stage of cancer. There are several treatment options available including targeted drug therapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Surgical procedures are also available for such health condition, like wedge resection, pneumonectomy and lobectomy. Nonetheless, if you are afflicted with a specific form of cancer, like squamous cell cancer of the lung, you may perform a research about this or simply go to this link.

The choice not to become a physician was something I regretted after some dear to me fell prey to cancer. Since cancer cures are still nonexistent, though, I wonder if I could have achieved much to aid him even so. The possibilities of aspirin cancer prevention are being researched at the moment, though, and that is good news.

The substance taken regularly for pain relief is currently being studied for its preventive abilities regarding cancer cells. This is nothing short of phenomenal, especially when you consider how easily you can obtain aspirin. The idea of simply taking oral medicaments for preventing the growth of cancer really strikes a chord in me because my own loved one perished far too early due to his reluctance to undergo the pain of chemo.

That having been noted, it must be mentioned too that the drug is not able to remove cancer and can only help you avoid its onset. In the studies, the people who took the prescribed amounts of aspirin by the scientists had fewer among them who developed cancer. People with cancer taking aspirin, on the other hand, experienced a reduction in the rate of metastasis.

The medicament has been seen to elicit different responses from different cancers. The studies revealed that the rate of effectiveness seemed to vary, with common kinds like those affecting the lungs and colon to be most effectively prevented. My loved one perished from cancerous cells in his colon.

Esophageal strains and colorectal ones were very strongly limited too, according to scientists. This is the reason the drug is being suggested as a precautionary measure by more than a few authorities. There are a lot of people in the field who are already coming close to verifying the validity of such a concept, although they do advise to be careful with doses due to possible unwanted reactions.

The body may not react too well to this medicine if you try to give it too much. The untrammeled dosages of aspirin have negative effects on certain internal organs, causing them to bleed. It shows that any drug can turn from blessing to curse if you overdo it.

A good number of physicians are not ready to recommend regular doses of aspirin to healthy individuals. There are counter observations conducted in the United States that did not prove any correlation between aspirin and cancer prevention. Nonetheless, people from the other side of the fence argue that we can hardly trust these researchers given that they did not provide aspirin as a daily dose (as the researchers from the other side did).

That said, some people wonder if the research from the other side of the fence can be trusted considering it was originally intended to be about aspirin’s ability to lower cardiac risks. Baby aspirin is among the most popular medicaments in the United States for those who have heart issues. Cancer is not quite the same thing as cardiovascular issues.

A qualified stance is perhaps the best one in this matter, as with many other yet-experimental notes in medicine. The Executive VP of the American Cancer Society, for instance, is speaking positively of the findings yet advocates that more be done before anyone begins to prescribe aspirin for preventing cancer. Also, a medical expert from Harvard believes that the findings “raise the level of excitement about using aspirin as a chemo-preventive agent”.

Personally, I cannot provide a comment on the science behind these matters, as I am not qualified for it.
